In a significant development, the 100-year-old institution is set to open its first branch outside the East Coast Road area at Nex mall in Serangoon Central, marking a new chapter in its storied history. The Nex outlet, scheduled to open in Q3 later this year, will be located near one of Serangoon MRT station's exits, making it easily accessible to locals and visitors alike. Chin Mee Chin Confectionery, originally founded in 1925, has a rich history of serving old-school teatime fare. The eatery, known for its marble-topped tables and retro charm, closed in 2018 due to manpower issues and a lack of succession planning. However, the brand was revitalized in 2021 by the F&B company Ebb & Flow Group, which also operates the casual Italian chain Casa Vostra. The revival was made possible through an agreement with the family behind Chin Mee Chin, who were neighbors of the group's co-founder and CEO, Lim Kian Chun.
The Nex outlet will feature a menu that includes the brand's signature house-made lemak kaya slathered on toasted buns, as well as classic old-school bakes such as cream horns, chiffon cakes, and luncheon meat buns.
